BIOGRAPHIES

My name is Irene Vicente Salas and I am a playwright, set designer, writer and performer, among other things.

I trained as an art historian specializing in the history of the performing arts at the UB (Barcelona) and at La Sapienza (Rome), later as a director and playwright at the Institut del Teatro (Barcelona and Vic). He also completed two postgraduate courses, the first in Production and management of shows and cultural events at the IL3 (UB of Barcelona) and the other in Theatre and Education at the Vic Theatre Institute.

I have also written commissioned articles for the Transversal Network such as "Sota Terra", "a la recerca d'un temps tel.luric, d'un espai atàvic", based on the show "Sota Terra" by Moon Ribas and Quim Girón and the article
-"Visit to els Bronzes de Riace"- connect with history through women and our way of relating to the world, to each other and to ourselves. All this translated on stage in an absolutely visual, compositional and choreographic way, of which the show, UNHEIMLICH (2019), is an example, which won the Kinètic grant from the CC Parco Sandaru and the DespertaLab scholarship at the Nave Ivanow and Sala Atrium, TNT Festival 2019 and Casa Elizalde.

As a result of this show, it is when I began to be interested in the transfer to the stage of all the knowledge learned in art history and to distort it with good reason. I do a small performance in Pompeii and in the National Museum of Archaeology in Naples where I begin to write down these ideas. It is from the 2019 DespertaLab that I become part of the resident artists of the Nave Ivanow.

My current practice is based on the confluence of the union of these two disciplines and is reflected in CORPUS, a performative exhibition that takes place in art museums and that is always modified according to the collection of the same museum. From the works of the museum's permanent collection, I generate scenes that allow us to recognize the great themes of art history and bring them to the contemporaneity. This is reflected on a practical level with the exhibition of these scenes scattered around the museum that the visitor can contemplate as another piece of the collection. All of them are supported by poetic and explanatory texts that unite the museum's collection with the scenic proposal, thus generating an exhibition curatorship of the show.

CORPUS has been presented to the Marine Museum and the MNAC in Barcelona, both under the umbrella of the Greek festival 2022 and 2023 and at the Garrotxa Museum in Olot under the umbrella of the Seismograph 2024.

Previously, I have premiered AUTÓNOMA at the Antiguo Teatro and at Can Felipa (2017) and at the beginning of 2020 we have been working on the ELLAS COMEN project at the Teatropuerto, Xil·le, La Serena, in a month-long stay, thanks to being a resident company at the Nave Ivanow.

I have worked as a playwright in the shows "Macho Man", "This undiscovered country that does not let any of its travelers return from its borders" and "Ofèlia" (Panic Attack) by Àlex Rigola, a company of which I have been producer and manager for five years (2019 - 2024).

I have also worked as a playwright in the show "I can't tear myself off the boss" by Alba Pujol, presented at the Escenas 2021 of the Auditorio de Barcelona, in the show "Pop" by Laura Alcalà and in the dance company "La Súbita", as a playwright and external gaze in the show of José and his Sisters "Morir lo hace todo el mundo" and as a playwright and writer of the show "Natal" by animal Religion.

I have also worked as assistant director to Lali Álvarez in "Ragazzo" and "Barcelona, contra la pared" (Nave Ivanow, Teatro Libre, Feria Tàrrega and Antiguo Teatro) and with Evelyn Arévalo in "La suma y el resto" (Sala Fènix).

Outside of stage practice, I have guided and coordinated the nudist guided tours of the Archaeological Museum of Barcelona, which took place at the beginning of the 23/24 season. I have also written commissioned articles for the Transversal Network such as "Sota Terra", "a la recerca d'un temps tel.luric, d'un espai atàvic", based on the show "Sota Terra" by Moon Ribas and Quim Girón and the article -"Visit to els Bronzes de Riace"- connect with history through one's own body for the magazine of the Naturist Club of Catalonia
